Wilmington University recently recognized Mike Dixon’s work as a scholar-practitioner by promoting him to Adjunct Associate Professor of History. The promotion acknowledges his classroom engagement, professional contributions, and continuing work in the field of history. Dixon teaches history and humanities courses in the University’s College of Education and Liberal Arts.
For more than four decades, Dixon has focused his public history practice on social history and community studies. Through teaching, writing, research, public programs, and media work, he has encouraged public interest in preserving the past and helped audiences understand the connections between earlier eras and the present.
His work has reached national and international audiences. He has appeared on the Today Show, Maryland Public Television, the BBC, the National Geographic Channel, Fox News, and National Public Radio. He has also been interviewed by the Wall Street Journal, National Geographic, the Washington Post, and other major media outlets.
