Photo courtesy of the Delaware Public Archives.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sussexcountian.com\/article\/20120824\/NEWS\/308249968\/-1\/Top%20stories\">Georgetown Historical Societ<\/a>y is\u00a0hosting a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dhf.org\/\">Delaware Humanities Forum <\/a>talk that I will do on Jan. 7th, 2013,\u00a0at 7:30 p.m. at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marvelmuseum.com\/index.cfm\">Marvel Carriage Museum <\/a>in Georgetown.<\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">This\u00a0lecture offers an intriguing look at the evolution of crime, punishment, and police work in Delaware from the colonial era to the mid-twentieth century.\u00a0The fast-paced program\u00a0examines old county jails, headline-grabbing criminal escapades of long ago, discontinued methods of punishment, and unheralded peace officers.<\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">\u00a0The Georgetown group has a particular interest in Delaware&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/delmarvahistory.wordpress.com\/2008\/08\/02\/crime-and-punishment-%e2%80%93-the-whipping-post\/\">whipping post,<\/a>\u00a0so we will spend\u00a0some time examining that subject.\u00a0\u00a0The goal of the program is to look at how crime and policing methods have changed by using\u00a0 any little-known stories of this often unexplored aspect of history.<\/p>\n<p>The museum is located at 510 South Bedford Street in Georgetown.<\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Georgetown Historical Society is\u00a0hosting a Delaware Humanities Forum talk that I will do on Jan. 7th, 2013,\u00a0at 7:30 p.m. at the Marvel Carriage Museum in Georgetown.
