{"id":746,"date":"2012-09-30T21:41:13","date_gmt":"2012-09-30T21:41:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dixonhistory.com\/news\/?p=746"},"modified":"2013-05-10T00:47:01","modified_gmt":"2013-05-10T00:47:01","slug":"746","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dixonhistory.com\/news\/746\/","title":{"rendered":"Many Research Treasures Reside in Delmarva History Collection at Odessa Library"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure style=\"width: 311px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" \" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/delmarvahistory.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/09\/odessa-072.jpg?resize=311%2C253\" width=\"311\" height=\"253\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">An early 20th century traveling library from the Delaware State Library Commission in the Corbit-Calloway collection<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>If you are researching local or family history on the Delmarva Peninsula, there are many fine libraries from Wilmington down to\u00a0 Accomac, VA. that can help.\u00a0 Some are large, university affiliated repositories, while others are non-profit, stand-alone institutions located in some of region\u2019s\u00a0 small towns.\u00a0\u00a0 As I travel from one end of Delmarva to the other using these resources, I will highlight a few of the smaller collections that help individuals piecing together puzzles from the past.<\/p>\n<p>The National Historic Register town of Odessa, a community of about 300 people, has the <a href=\"http:\/\/corbitlibrary.org\/\">Corbit-Calloway Memorial Library<\/a>.\u00a0 Established in 1847, it is the oldest free lending institution in Delaware.\u00a0 Tucked away in one room of the facility and spilling out into the main stacks and basement where it fills more shelves and file cabinets, patrons find the A.
