Leventhal Map Center at the Boston Public Library<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Bird\u2019s-Eye-Views, a popular cartographic form during the late 19th and early 20<sup>th<\/sup> centuries, were painstakingly drawn by sketch artists.\u00a0 Although they were not drawn precisely to scale, they provided helpful snapshots of towns frozen in time.\u00a0 Showing busy communities, the artistic renderings\u00a0revealed streets filled with carriages, stores surrounded by activities, and trains approaching stations.\u00a0 They also depicted major perspectives on the landscape, and offered several detailed vignettes of certain buildings, which had been included on the view.\u00a0 Of course, the subscriber paid a fee to have his building included in the inset.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/maps.bpl.org\/our_mission\">Boston Public Library\u2019s Norman B. Leventhal Map Center <\/a>has a collection of these artistic Delaware works available on the Internet.\u00a0 An 1885 cluster contains <a href=\"http:\/\/lcweb2.loc.gov\/ammem\/pmhtml\/panart.html\">O. H. Bailey &amp; Co<\/a>. products for Clayton, Smyrna, Georgetown, Harrington, Middletown, Milford, and Dover.\u00a0 In 1874, H. H. Bailey &amp; Company sketched out Wilmington.<\/p>\n<p>The Norman B.
