Governmental records at the state, county, and city level are important resources for studying the past and\u00a0the documents are usually available in a state or local archives.\u00a0\u00a0But when local bodies\u00a0digitize\u00a0public historical\u00a0resources it makes the job of the researcher so much easier,\u00a0increasing\u00a0efficiencies for\u00a0agency staff, and reducing custodial and preservation problems as paper ages and\u00a0becomes fragile.<\/p>\n

Recently I needed to do some work with the\u00a0public records\u00a0in Dover, DE. and I discovered that the city has done a fine job of making its paper\u00a0records available electronically on the net.\u00a0 Beginning in 1920, the\u00a0Council\u00a0minutes\u00a0are online\u00a0and those materials\u00a0continue on to the present.\u00a0 There are also archived minutes for many of the\u00a0committees and commissions, though most of those don’t go back as far.<\/p>\n

Thank you City of Dover for making\u00a0public records available in such an efficient and helpful way.\u00a0 Anyone studying the past in capital of the First State will find this to be a helpful resource.<\/p>\n
